Maasai Mara National Reserve

The Setting

At Sangalai Sand River, comfort is defined by thoughtfulness. Every detail is carefully considered to support life in the bush.

With just seven tents and exclusive use, the camp feels more like a private home in the Maasai Mara than a lodge. Located within the Maasai Mara National Reserve, directly on the banks of the Sand River, our unique position sits close to the Great Migration route as herds move from Tanzania's Serengeti into Kenya's famed Maasai Mara.

During migration season, wildebeest and zebra may cross the river right in front of your tent.

The Social Heart

The Mess Tents

Two distinct spaces form the social heart of Sangalai Sand River — one for gathering and dining, the other for quieter moments between game drives.

The Dining Tent

The main gathering space — with dining table, bar, and comfortable sofas. Mornings start with strong Kenyan coffee; evenings are candlelit and relaxed, filled with stories from the bush.

Our chefs prepare gourmet multi-course meals using fresh, seasonal produce. Menus are tailored to every preference, with bread baked daily and cold drinks always ready.

The Lounge Tent

The Lounge Tent

A quieter space to unwind — somewhere to sink into a sofa with a book, or gather before heading out on a game drive.

Designed for stillness and easy conversation, with views out to the riverbank and the sounds of the Mara all around.
